STEROID INDUCED ACNE

What is Steroid Induced Acne?

Steroids are drugs commonly used to treat a variety of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune conditions.  In some cases, steroids can cause acne.  Steroid induced acne can involve any area of the body but is often prominent on the chest, back and shoulders.  Steroid induced acne usually appears as a collection of red papules dispersed in a follicular pattern. It is rare to see a traditional white head or black head or cystic lesion in this type of acne eruption.  Topical steroids also may cause or exacerbate a pre-existing acne condition.
