PURTOX

What is Purtox?

Purtox is a new cosmetic dermatology product which is designed to temporarily remove wrinkles, creases and folds.  Purtox is similar to Botox in that the neurotoxin botulinum toxin is used as a way to block the repeated contraction of nerve signals resulting in a transient flaccid muscle which is free of wrinkles.  Purtox is pending FDA approval and will be a competitor to Botox.

How is Purtox used?

Purtox is injected into the treatment area using a syringe.  It is not a permanent solution to preventing wrinkles because as new neuromuscular junctions form the muscle function and thus wrinkles return.  Patients need to return every three to five months for additional injections to maintain the desired effect of Purtox.

What are the side effects of Purtox?

Immediately following the injection, patients can develop temporary bruising, swelling, and redness.  These side effects generally resolve shortly after treatment.
